Camaraderie

You'll find plenty of friendly faces, whether you're scaling a steep incline or sharing trail tales over a cup of tea.

Adventure

Our walks range from gentle rambles to leg-burning climbs. Don’t worry—there’s no judgment if you need an extra break (or five).

Snacks

Some say hill walking is 50% hiking and 50% snack sharing. We're not here to disagree.

FAQ

What you need to know

What should I wear?
  • Wear moisture wicking layers, starting with a lightweight base layer, followed by a mid-layer (like fleece), and a waterproof outer layer jacket.
  • Waterproof pants packed in your ruck sack.
  • Sturdy waterproof hiking boots are essential to support your foot and ankle.
  • Gloves and a hat.
  • Gaiters provide extra boot protection from the rain and mud.

Even if it is a fine day, it can get very cold and wet in the mountains. Four seasons in a day comes to mind! It is essential that you have all the above at a minimum.

The walk leader may check your kit, please don’t be offended if you are asked to return another day with the full kit, this is for your safety and the safety of the whole group.

Hike participants will need to be reasonably fit and be prepared to walk for 5–7 hours, often in inclement weather.

We have two different grade of hikes each Sunday;

Grade C hikes are for beginners and those who prefer a more comfortable hike. These usually have one up hill and one downhill and typically last approximately 5 hours long including a lunch stop.

Grade B hikes are for the more advanced hikers and those looking for a challenge. These are typically a fast-paced hike and consist of many challenging up and downhills. There may be some scrambling and participants may need a helmet. The grade B hikes are typically between 5 and 7 hours long, including a stop for lunch.

All newcomers are advised to start with a Grade C hike.

The majority of our hikes take place in the beautiful Comeragh mountains. The leader decides on the route, taking into consideration the number of people participating and the weather. If you would like to join one of our hikes, click here for further information.

Each year, we organise club trips both locally and internationally. These trips are highly popular and provide our members with the opportunity to explore new destinations alongside like-minded people.

  • A hot drink.
  • Plenty of water, snacks and lunch.
  • A first-aid kit (including blister plasters).
